Research has shown that parent and family involvement contributes to school success for all children. Parents of children with special needs are important to the special education process and should be involved with the school or agency as the staff takes the child through referral, assessment, determination of special needs, and design of a special education program. Parents should be familiar with state and federal special education legislation as well as the special education programs available within the Governor Wentworth Regional School District.
