The Governor Wentworth Regional School District provides a continuum of placement options and services to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities. State and federal regulations require that students with disabilities are educated with non-disabled peers to the maximum extent that is appropriate for their education needs. The Special Education Evaluation and Placement Team must determine placement in any of the special education programs for grades K-12, available in all district schools.
Preschool Programs: Preschool children who require special education receive services with non-disabled peers in public or local private preschools, or day care centers. Related services may be provided as specified in the child's IEP.
Regular Education Setting: A student with an educational disability attends a regular class with supports and services required in the IEP.
Resource Room: A student with an educational disability attends a regular class and receives assistance at or through the special education resource room for no more than 60% of their school day.
Self-Contained Special Education Class: A student with an educational disability attends a self-contained special class for more than 60% of their school day.
Special Education Related Services: Related services are services that may be required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education. Examples of related services are: transportation, speech-language services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling services, psychological services, school health services, or other corrective services which may be needed to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education. Medical services are for diagnostic or evaluation purposes only.
